Für das Jahr 2020 rechnet die Flughafengesellschaft mit insgesamt rund neun Millionen Passagieren.

The airport company Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH (FBB) operates Berlin Brandenburg Willy Brandt Airport (BER) with its three terminals. Berlin is the third biggest airport location in Germany and ranks first in terms of origin and destination traffic (not counting connecting passengers). In 2019, before the coronavirus pandemic, the airports in Schönefeld and Tegel handled around 35.65 million passengers. For 2020, the airport company expects a total of around nine million passengers.

The three business

The three business segments Aviation Management, Non Aviation Management and Real Estate Management generate revenue for Berlin Airports, while the segment Marketing brings airlines to Berlin and secures the best connections for the German capital region. 15

Aviation The core business of any airport Andreas Deckert, Head of the business segment Aviation Management at Berlin Airports A frenzy of activity on the apron: a whole host of differently painted aircraft are parking in front of the terminal, a plane is ready for boarding, passengers are climbing the steps with their hand luggage. The next plane is being pushed back. Further to the right, baggage trucks are transporting luggage to the plane. A plane is taking off in the distance and another is taxiing into position after landing. Airport operations are fairly complex. Who actually keeps things in perspective? 16 Aviation Management is the core business of any airport. This is where it all comes together. We take care of everything directly related to air traffic. Our key business segments are terminal management, baggage handling, flight operations and the coordination of airside operations. We currently employ around 200 staff to run the airports Tegel and Schoenefeld. Our operations staff primarily work in the airport control centres in Schoenefeld and Tegel and take care of resource management and capacity planning. We are also responsible for all time and data recording activities, thus providing the basis for revenue accounting. In addition, we oversee Business Aviation and ensure that the leading lights of politics, business and society arrive and depart on time. In short, we arrange, manage and oversee all traffic-related processes, without actually being actively involved. So what sort of people land in Berlin? We do see some well-known faces here, after all, we are the German capital airports, and events such as the MTV Music Awards, the Berlin International Film Festival or the 2009 World Championships in Athletics naturally attract many a
